hey everyone!

I am making a model for a course im taking, but instead of doing it with clay we first cutted the sections out of wood (MDF) and then placed them toghether, later filling the gaps with poliurethane foam.

everyone is covering it with automotive plaster, but I want to try fiber glass instead. what do you think?

it would be the fiberglass, then sand it and fill imperfections, and then the pain. Has anyone tried it?

and last, any tips for making the glass areas look cool?? the teacher told me to paint them black but for me it seems it will look kinda plain. thanks!

Victor

Should work fine. As for the glass areas... I would paint them black or perhaps silver if you could find a chrome-like film or material (like a nice foil that won't crinkle)

Get pics of your work from wood all the way through the finished product though!

I would suggest painting the windows dark blue. I have always felt that painting them black looks a little lifeless. When i say dark blue though, i mean so dark it looks black and only when the light catches it you can see the blue.

Whatever material you use try to get the foam as close as possible to your design as the foam is a damn sight easier to work with than either plaster or fibreglass.

The plaster available; is it Denaco? 'Cos that stuff dries like F***ing stone. When it's wet use your hands (or a slick) to get close to the final surfaces. If you end up having to use power tools on the thing then WHOAH, work.

Fibreglass is a little trickier to lay up but it's easier to work with once it's dry. If you like the odd itch and the not-so-odd high.

Windows wise, go for a really dark colour that compliments your body colour. Don't go for dark green if your body is red, if you've got a light blue body, go for a really dark brown or midnight blue. Try to keep the body colour noticably lighter than the windows.
