"I couldn't find the car i'd been dreaming of, so i decided to build it myself" Prof.Dr.ing.h.c.Ferdinand Porsche
I am going to talk about Porsche Panamera.
Porsche always build sportcars with technology and when a car called Porsche it should has Porsche genetic code and Porsche power. well,i think Panamera is a wrong idea like Porsche Cayenne because Ferry Porsche 's firs idea was 2+2 seats sport coupe and he wanted a small sportcar but Cayenne is a SUV car and it isn't classical Porsche. If Porsche AG build 4 doors sedan "panamera" it will be like cayenne for Porsche lovers and i think they don't like it.but you know Porsche is always different from other sportcars and maybe Panamera will be a different Porsche.
There are rich people who want the Porsche name and 4WD and they bought the Cayenne. Similarly, other rich folks just want the name and 4 doors and they'll buy the Panamera.
Studies show most of those folks pronounce the Porsche name with one syllable... and overwhelmingly order the tiptronic transmission.
I believe Porsche wanted to revive the idea of the 928. Seeing the heavy marketing for the 6 series, success of the M5 and a responce from Mercedes-Benz with the CLS and CLS AMG, Porsche realize they use to own this segment, Them and Jaguar.
So reviving the 928 was not a bad idea especially when they already have a V8 engine on the pipeline, the Cayennes. So born the Panamera. Ironicly the Panamera follows Benzs path into creating a coupe with four doors. It is definately going to look very sporty and very Porsche.
Is it a Porsche?? With four doors maybe not entirely in the spirit of it but the rest of the car besides having four doors most likely would be (very Porsche), built quality, rediculous horsepower, etc etc. Put it this way, if it would have two doors it would be more Porsche??

Money talks. I belive in this world money is the most important things for many people, and you know Porsche Cayenne bring thousands and thousands for Porsche but i think Porsche name is more important than money. Porsche must keep classical shape but Cayenne and Panamera isn't a relly classical Porsche. When Ferry Porsche began to developed the cars,he didn't think about money he just wanted build his dream and this is very important things.Porsche must keep Ferry Porsche way.
Salar, seriously, quit moaning over an old subject. I've heard the same arguments from the RennList site to just about anyone who, like you, are devoted to the badge.
Sure money is in the equation but a lot more of it leads to prosperity. I see it like this, you can be an owner of a corner store and just hang in there while eating ramen for the rest of your life or invest into another idea that could lead to more freedom. With the extra income you could possibly treat yourself with steak once in a while to maybe doing something outrageous such as skydiving. Which would you rather choose, the ramen eating corner store owner or the man who checked out other possible ventures to create more income for oneself?
The extra revenue created by these products may lead to other ventures for Porsche otherwise may never exist. If you really think about it, the only vehicle in Porsche's line-up has been around the longest is the 911, which to just about anyone will tell you is true Porsche.
You know rumor had it that Porsche may eventually produce the 911 as a mid-engine car? It could maintain it's classical shape as you are so concerned with (even though the overall shape is the same but there is a lot about the 911 that isn't so classical) but to many it wouldn't have the same 911-charm and we all the know this car is the very essence of Porsche. Now tell me, what is more detrimental to Porsche? Changing the 911 or developing and producing a sedan?
You know what? The 911 is very different to when it first existed decades ago. Technology had no part in the success of the first couple of generations. It is engineering. Technology never came into the equation until the 959 paved way for the 911 Turbo. Through that Porsche engineered the technology to be very effective. With that the 911 is much safer with the PASM and PSM that never existed before the 996 and current 997. Along with these technologies have gone the very essence of driving the 911, trying to tame its understeer and sudden oversteer tendencies.
I am not crying over the new 911s but simply stating the facts. Porsche has to change to stay competitive. When the 996 was announced as the first watercooled 911, purists were going insane and people thought the company would go down. Looking back now, we all laugh at all the initial feelings we all had because Porsche is anything but successful. Porsche is still going strong and I doubt they will lose any momentum from the sedan. Another thing to add is that the typical Porsche owner has no clue about history, racing pedigree, and what have so classic shape or not, it does not really matter; Porsche will still sell. At least Porsche still sell racecars and use these to fuel their important model, the 911 and its GT variants.

In the September issue of Excellence, the big rumor for Porsche is that they may enter Nascar with the Panamera. Since I cannot load the attachment of the article (too big) I will qoute parts of the article.
Title: The Final Frontier: 2009's Panamera will take Porsche factory racing where it's never been
Story by Marco Trenello
Porsche AG, ever conscious of new opportunities to reach larger markets, has big plans for its future Panamera. The 2009 V8 sedan will give Stuttgart the chance to go head-to-head with Ford Fusions, Chevy Monte Carlos, Dodge Chargers, and Toyota Camrys in NASCAR.
Though none of these "lesser" nameplates fall into the Panamera's "four-door coupe" category - or its price point, for that matter - word has it that Porsche AG feels it can no longer afford to miss out on a mass-market appeal in American only NASCAR can provide. Inside sources also report that the Porsche engineers were disappointed they couldn't enter their Cayenne line in Nascar's Super Truck series because the planned P150 pickup variant never launched. The 2009 Panamera changes everything, though.

Is it insulting that a magazine would publish this article or will you be insulted if Porsche actually joins the Nascar fray?

Richard, i'm going to talk about Porsche name with u. U know Porsche is a really lovely car for many people, but can u tell me why it is lovely?,, sure because everyone when see a porsche car for example the 911 (if he/she know it is a Porsche or don't know) say oh great that's beautifull car. you know what is beautifull mean for a Porsche, it means the best design , the best engineering, the best technology and ...i belive for this reason Porsche must still in classical shape. Porsche is always different from other car company like Mercedes-benz or aston martin or FERRARI !! Why?,, because it still classical car and it never changed. When you see a Porsche car like 911 if you can't see Porsche crest on the car you can understand its a Porsche because it has classical lines, shape and other special things. Now tell me if someone see panamera say it's a porsche?,,,No,, Panamera has a good design high technology and performance but its not a classical Porsche like Cayenne. You are true Porsche has to change to stay competitive. but it hasn't to build a 4 door sedan!! it should build more sport coupe with Porsche shape and technology like Cayman S. i love Cayman s because its a classic Porsche and sport coupe car. and about NASCAR !!! it is unreal if we think Porsche go in Nascar with Panamera ,if it's true i think it's bad for Porsche history. At the end Rechard i think Panamera can be a Good car but not a Porsche car. thanke you
"Good design must be honest" Prof.Ferdinand Alexander Porsche.
I think you and I are very different in why we love Porsche. I am under strong impression you are too attached with the way they look as I am more nuetral but I am slightly more inclided with the way they drive. Porsche stands for innovation, emotion, and fascination. I am suprised you are so wrapped around the Cayenne and Panamera. The Cayman, Boxster, 911, and the no longer produced Carrera GT brings those three characteristics with flying colors. The Cayenne has done nothing to bring Porsche down. People still love Porsche. I sure do because variants like the GT3 and Cayman S exist. I doubt the chairmen would allow a normal sedan to do the same, which is why the Panamera will be anything but normal.
Porsche races because it is their ethos as well. NASCAR is racing. What is the problem? Porsche's history is racing, why do you think the RS Spyder exists along with the customer GT3 RSRs? The RS Spyder will be sold to private teams after this year. Same thing will go for the Panamera sedan if it truly goes to NASCAR. You are seriously hopeless. If you don't like it deal with it.
