I applied for financial aid and art center scholarship, which help for the year's tuition (3 terms) provided that I do well in all my courses. For living expenses, gas, food etc, I applied for private and federal loan. The total of all my loans is nearing 50k for 2008-2009 period. lol. That definitely put things in perspective Mr.Burns.
The whole hippy mentality that we are all going to hold hands and design cars that change the world is just BS. Corporations care about money, nothing else. If GM could grind up baby orphans and make money off of it they would.
Jesus Christ Maryo! You're not even a student yet and already crying about things beyond your control.
Wait 'till you're about halfway through, with multiple project deadlines looming, complete lack of sleep and personal hygiene, zero social life, and NO MONEY - then you can tell your little sad story to the world.
You need to start school with a positive attitude and the hunger to succeed. If not, then you'll get your ass kicked and remain miserable for the rest of your short design career. Whatever the hell you're drinking to drown out your sorrows...it ain't workin'.
It's probably because I took a Philosophy course in college and did really well at it! (to my surprise, the credits actually transfered) Hahaha! Well Steve, to tell you the truth, every once in a while I'd like to think that I'm really Mr.Crisis bleeding for a solution to some "problem". Sometime, this is exactly what keeps me going through many things beyond my control. Dont worry though, all this angst will soon pass. This usually happens before I quickly regain focus 110% into more important things like... composing another portfolio by October. I am seriously looking forward to do just that.
btw, what do you mean personal hygiene? will I be malodorous?
By a lack of personal hygiene I meant that you'll start looking like crap and smelling pretty funky after spending 3+ straight days/nights sanding away on your model in the upper term studios.
Malodorous - yes! You'll smell like B.O., sweat, Bondo dust, and whatever cheap cologne you're sporting in an attempt to disguise all that.
Just have fun, positive attitude, good work ethics and time management, and personal drive when you finally get in and you'll get through 'smelling like roses'. Remember: being just 'good enough' is not good enough anymore.

Dammit! I really was looking forward to buying some men perfume!

I'm definitely going to see to that. I'm learning to find some substance in my design and the creative process as a whole. Can't wait to experience what the first killer terms are like!
Thanks for heads up Steve. How did you stay awake all this time?
Thankfully I'm moving to Pasadena mid-August. I tried that mountain dew + dr.pepper deal... the sugar didn't do much for me... sooooo, I'll opt for homemade ice cold honey GINSENG tea! Anyone out there who feels like trying, I can do a brew service... for $$ of course. I need more gas allowance w/o having some 'questionable' side business.
I make badass ginseng brew you'll think its c*cain!
great post. i am still very naively hippie when it comes to believing that i can change the world. i hope the industry will not change me but the other way around!
