Okay, now my heart just broke.
I still keep a couple of different brochures of the Nissan Pulsar done by NDI.
I also saw a special NDI brochure which included an artist's signed plaster tile of the circle and dash logo; was that a mock-up, or was that for real?
I know receptionists are the ones who actually run the place, but this is ridiculous!

I used to have one of those brochures with the hand cast logo but I think I threw it out because it was just to heavy and bulky to keep around. They produces a limited number - a hundred or so of those. Are a Pulsar NX fan? I was chief designer on that project. That was back in the day when I was proud to be part of that company. Now, I think the receptionist may be the best one to manage the place.

Pleased to make your aquaintanentanence. A neighbor had one of yours in black. I would stare at it outside the window when it was parked on the street: the pill shaped graphics, the cut lines for the hinges, the details to hide elements...
If you're ever in Silver Lake, allow me to treat you to a slice of the best guava pie at Cafe Tropical on Sunset and Parkman. (Yes, technically I do live in Silver Lake proper, but it's become a bit too Melrose Place-y to admit it.)

Omigod, aflo. I just checked your photobucket page; did you work on the 1972 Pontiac LeMans? That was the family wagon (made to order, light metallic green, no fake wood siding). Let me treat you to the whole pie.

Well, let's see. Guava pie starts with a flaky crust on the bottom, over which is a layer of cream-cheese-something (but this isn't cold like cheesecake; this is hot, so the flavor is pronounced), over which is a thin layer of guava jam (guava is a tropical fruit like pear, peach and pineapple partying all together), topped by a flaky crust. If it were a car, it would probably be a Nissan Figaro, light and pleasurable, not too childish, but with a definite sense of hearty soul.

Hi aflo; did you by any chance work with Mr. Hirshberg or Mr. Semple ? Thanks, Dreamer.

The Guava pie sounds good. Dreamer, Jerry, Tom and I founded Nissan Design International (now Nissan Design America) in 1980, along with Kazumi Yotosumoto, NDI's first president. I had worked with Jerry and Tom at GM since the mid-60s. They are both good guys, crazy characters and talented automotive artists. Neither one would have gone along with the recent activities at NDA. Both are retired and living in San Diego County.

The following EDIT was added to my first post on this thread, Feb 13th....
Fri, March 28th, 2008 - It has been brought to my attention that some of the statements I made in this post are not accurate. I assume it refers to (primarily) the earlier posts like this one. Therefore I have decided to add this statement so that anyone reading the thread from the start will know to go through and catch my later ones, which are more informed. It goes without saying that the company allowed a vacuum to occur for quite a while without any public statements setting out their position. It is natural for rumors and hyperbole to get a toehold in such an environment and I feel bad that I participated in that environment. Nonetheless, I will stand by my more recent (and more informed) statements which are still not very flattering to NDA.)
