Its really sad, the way Acura and Honda are going down with their designs. I mean, this car looks like the bad sketch a design student did sunday morning, so far from being the ephytome of Honda as a brand. Does anyone else think this is done on purpose?? I just dont think a multinational with such resources and vision can come up with things like THESE. And let it be clear im a HUGE Honda fan.
I see them as more of an engineering company but man, these cars(esp the interiors) are awful. They need to stop with that crazy "Alien vs Predator" interior scheme. Looks old and gross. The digital display on top of the screen looks bad. I thought the new Accord was bad... Clearly they have lost their way.
garbage. most internet forums all over the world can pretty much say the same thing. i've been a huge honda fan but i can honestly say that i've lost faith in them and they pretty much lost their edge in terms of aesthetics, design, and especially performance.
yeah, i totally agree. all these cars look like bad sketches gone real. but, i actually like the new pilot interior, just that exterior looks like a subruban from the 80s or more like the ford excursion. a lot of companies are making deign mistakes.have u seen the mercedes benz vision GLK? or that new ford focus coupe? seriously, why do they do that??
I know this isn't edmunds.com, but here I go. When I saw the 84 Civic, I was smitten. That car was so smart. When my sister was shopping for a car a few years layer, I suggested she get a Civic. She got an '88 (pumpkin back). Then I got a '91. Then my brother got a '91. My neighbor got a Fox. That was a maintenance nightmare. So he got a Civic. My cousin up north drove my Civic. He got a Civic. When I washed my Civic, it felt okay, but nothing as great as, say, the first generation Rabbit (Fau Vay Golf I) both sensually and graphically. It was more of a packaging magician's trick: I could go to ikea and get four Bjorks (wicker chairs) inside with the tailgate closed, or a Bjork (bookcase) with two Bjorks (glass doors, taken off though) from the as-is section. The Honda's I've experienced recently (first hybrid Civic and Odyssey Van) felt clever and competent but uninspired. Washing the Civic, it felt like another blob-car (sorry), and the van felt like a tedious job of when-the-hell-am-I-going-to-get-done-with-this-acreage. (!?!) Oh wait, I did try the Element; it was heavy with the 2wd, much better with the 4wd. Well, all in all, it was a plastic cornucopia. But if you put a surfboard on the roof, I couldn't stop staring at it. All in all, I'm angry, ANGRY, at Honda for dropping the ball. Are we that apathetic that we settle for blob-cars? Honda has a great story to tell; they just aren't publishing nowadays. Because putting on the AC due to all that swoopy horizontal glass is not a great design story; it's the design equivalent of a little boy saying the word 'F@#k!', you know?
Maybe OT but the Honda's in Japan and Europe are still looking fresh, interesting, and true to their slightly techy-geek customers. Looks like their direction in the States is off kilter, as everyone else on this forum has said. Is it because American punters like the look of these concepts? Or is it American designers? It's not clear cut to me, because I really liked the Accord coupe concept shown last year in Detroit.
Techy-geek. If only that were a major market segment. The Citroen DS was an engineering marvel (ah, ah, ah, hold off on the jokes, please), and seemed to be a symbol of the best that country had to offer. And it had memorable and purposeful looks.
I agree that most companies make mistakes sometimes, but I think Honda are way off right now. In my opinion Honda is now in a position where it can stop copying european brands (BMW, Mercedes, etc etc) and work on its own design language. Maybe it also looks that bad because of GM´s design comeback, but so far I think Toyota is right now the jap company who s leading in design, which isnt saying a lot.
question, WHY cant the jap companies make world class designs instead of just copying when they (i think) can ALSO afford the same designers as everyone?!!
and I also agree with monsieur Oyster that they are loosing it in the engineering department as well, since their cars are not as kewl as they used to be.They need to get back to basics, not try and turn into Buick. Acura needs A LOT of help right now.
