So...its official, TATA had bought Jaguar and Landrover for the princely sum of $2Million. Personally my feelings are mixed. I've lived with Jaguars my whole life and I feel its just a bit sad that great marque like Jaguar and Landrover have be sold again and again. However the prospect of having and supecharged XKR for the cost of an E-class here is just...mouthwatering... mmmmmm

I think this sale is the best think that could happen to all three brands.. Togheher they were just choking each other, since Ford wasnt in position to commit since they had big problems of their own
I really would have rather seen JLR go to an American or Eurpoean Automaker, but it is what it is.
The thing you've got to remember with a situation like this is that Ford has to look at all of its brands together.
If they're trying to sell Jaguar luxury cars in the 60 and 80K price range, they can't very well create really nice Lincolns that approach the same price point or no one will buy them.
That was part of their reasoning in selling off Aston Martin. It was limiting Jaguar's expansion as a Brand.
Ford has to focus on Ford itself and not its other brands. If they have to sell off some of the non performers or some of the "nice to haves" to get some cash for the main business, its good for them.
I completely agree with you queso. Tata buying JLR is the best thing fo all three brands. Jaguar and Land Rover are doing quite well and Tata's new Nano will do wonders for the company's sale figures in world’s fastest growing car markets. And now they've got established nameplates in the lucrative luxury car segments.
Ford's unfortunately lost big in this sale, not to mention the fact that it lost billions boosting LR profits and cushioning Jaguar's fledging sales. Now that the company has come out with a decent product and will likely get out of the 'red', it's getting sold off...
Oh and crazycardude, Tata bought JLR for $2.3 billion not million. Thy've already lost more than half their investment - they paid $5 billion in 1989 dollars when they bought the pair .
With luck Mr. Tata will write the cheques and let the JLR people get on with creating beautiful and desirable cars. Ford loaded them with beurocracy. Tata will gain most out of the deal but it's a good thing for everyone involved.
Jag and LR are very lucky companies. Now that Tata own them they can design good looking cars. It's all about the money. The more money you have the better outcome of the cars. It takes a lot of money to design beautiful cars. Toolings and so forth.
