At the moment I'm in the process of building up my portfolio for when i apply next year, (planning on applying to Coventry's Transport Design).
for those of you who applied there (and of course those of you who think you could help too) should i be sketching and designing outside the transportation range? ie should i be doing work on general products - furniture, electronics etc...
what sort of sketchwork did you put in your portfolio's, and in what media?
any help would be great!

My folio contained roughly about 60% art stuff and the rest was product/vehicle designs. I had a mix of portrait/wildlife/landscape/plants/interior paintings.
They wanna see a wide range of drawings, not just cars.

Yes and some of my work from GCSE art days, just take with you all the drawings you think are good enough. Also, don't limit yourself to finished drawings only, take your other unfinished stuff and doodles but keep them in a separate scrap book.
what theyre lookin for mostly is enthusiasm, talent (creatively) and a strong interest for art and design. theyre gonna be educating u (!) so it doesnt matter if ur car sketches suck a bit.
chuck in everything youve got that isnt sh*t, versatility and variety is good. even things like life drawing and ur finger paintings from pre-school. well maybe not that last one.
i have a question, do they mind photocopied work? because i have a lot of drawing on my comp that i have given away, and if i printed them out would that be ok?
yeah i put a (!) in there as a hint to my sarcasm or maybe just that its so ridiculous that its meant to be education but of course we all know its not. ive raised my views on the lack of guidance and training given at cov but those posts always seem to get removed!
I objected more vigourously than most at the incredible lapses and screw-ups, but if we hadnt gone to Cov we'd have to live with the shame of going to Huddersfield, so consider yourselves lucky.
Mine was (and still is) filled with some scruffy drawings of cars and loads of other crap, put in stuff you enjoyed doing its always the best. Not actual crap though. I know they can be enjoyable but theyre not included. Just drawings.
