compare your works to those in the portfolio section from accd undergrads.
Do you think you are ready?
My advice would be to wait a year - keep sketching, maybe even attend another accd class, and ask tutors there when they think you'll be ready.
if after another year you still feel passionate and motivated about your self-directed sketching, and your tutors say your skill level is there, then go for it.
from experience of watching others around me, it can be overwhelming for someone who may have been the best at drawing at their [high] school but are barely cutting the 'satisfactory' grade at uni. keep sketching, getting feedback, comparing with others work, and see where you are in a year.
hope this helps...

Aright thanks. I'm still in high school anyway in my last year. I am also planning to apply for a scholarship for an intermediate class at accd. I have a question about industrial design though. Since my parents have a hard time putting another person in college since I already have 3 family members in college I was planning to take Industrial Design at a state university. Would I still be able to do things like this? At least product design?
Yes, you would still be able to become a designer. In the end it's mostly down to yourself. But either way you'll need to sketch a lot and work hard.
Just don't throw your dream out of the window because it seems difficult to achieve right now! You are still very young. (Just check the average age of ACCD students.) And if tuition fees there are still killing you in 3-5 years you can always check out some of the other universities like CCS, Pforzheim, Umea...
Yeah, the average freshman is 23 over there! Just keep sketching, but to get in you need like a portfolio of about 4 projects, that includes a ton of ideation and renders. Don't just do cars, try and expand you horizons. Try and design Mass transit, and other modes of transportation. Thats what I think they are looking for.
Ok, Thanks. I think I enjoyed product design as well through my intro class. So far my portfolio would include alternative transportation for a teenage student in tokyo and a jeepney.
Oh...We'll see if i get accepted.i plan on buying my first set of markers soon. All i have is just cool grey markers, blue nupastel and black nupastel. I don't even have ink for the printer to do little effects on my portfolio.
