I see that u're really into compact cars. But are u sure that ur focus is the right one? Just like Han said.. if we're working in car design industry, we can't decide what we want to design. Unless it's our family's company. So, try to broaden ur mind, bro.. Anw, ur drawing and rendering are nice.. i can't draw and render like that when i'm at ur age. But if 3-5 years later ur drawing still like this... i can't say it's nice. And.. to improve ur sketches, u need a teacher! Post ur works here, and let us tells u whether it's right or left.. ups sorry, i mean wrong. And also, try to imitate other people sketches... after that, post it in here. So, keep improve! Perfect practice makes perfect. ^^

Hey, buddy! Nice improvement. For ur last image, I think we should be seeing some of the far side front wheel if they are turning away, not disappearing under the car.

I'm sure there's more to do to improve but I've been doing all of these behind closed doors. I even have a super car design from months ago that only close friends have seen.

well, you should start trying to draw different packaged/size cars... but if you're really dead set on just doing compacts for now, you should be studying what compacts really look like. Your proportions are way off, making them look cartoon-like... and in most cases your design itself is creating a cartoon like effect, with the huge wings and hood scoops etc. they just don't look realistic. more like fast and the furious gone horribly wrong. which brings up another point... don't study modded out compact cars. more often than not, they have body kits that don't suit them and oversized useless parts that don't make sense (like racing wings on a front wheel drive car, 20" rims, and big hood scoops for a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engine with 100hp.) its just all nonsense, and not design. instead, pay attention to what a factory made car looks like, stylistically and proportionally. pick out what does/doesn't work in designs you see and why, then apply that knowledge to what you're trying to do. all of the graphics, scoops, bells and whistles you want to do doesn't really mean anything. a car is defined by its proportions. that's why we can look at a 60's Ferrari and a new one and still say they're equally beautiful. technology is out the door, because the proportions and shape are just sexy. if you can create a good looking form, you don't need to rely on all the stuff you're trying now to have a successful design. good luck & keep at it!

Yeah, i just worked up something to prevent that. So everyone's been saying they all like look cartoons or w/e. including current ones. What do you suggest to take that look away?

To take that cartoony look away, I think.. u should study more about the surface of ur car. As we can see, ur car's surface doesn't seem to have a volume. It's more like a paper craft. And also, ur proportion of the wheelbase and the perspective of the DLO... it needs to be corrected. http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o28/geijutsutekinotenshi/correction.jpgHope it helps.. ^^ Anw, CMIIW.

Yes it does. I actually have fixed those mistakes already if you saw my comparison one. It's the one with the racing strip and carbon fiber hood. The reason why I added those two features is because it's like a limited edition type of thing like a Nismo Fairlady Z or Mugen Civic 2.0/SI. Improvements are still close. I have a better way to set poses. Since I don't use perspective points because it was confusing when my brother first taught me how to use it, my technique is to draw a box and within the box is the start of the body. So those mistakes you pointed out has been already amended mentally. I still have more to learn. I also have been working on the paper craft look on the spoiler. As for the body, I like to keep it nice and smooth for aerodynamics. I want that wide body look due to that wish. The rims are my own design as well from my first design back in summer 2007. So far it's been developed into more a sporty look. I've also designed a coupe, similar but without that airpocket on the fender leave a gash on the door. I have also been designing a spoiler to put on most of my designs just like the rims. So far, I have a lip-like spoiler instead of a big rally inspired spoiler. I'll upload a photo soon. Right now, I'm being stressed with AP Hw and a two week engineering program which I found out has a few tips on manufacturing cars in the text book that the program will never cover. I'll bring some details into it after the program.

Dude I have to say your not going to get any help on this website if you keep posting the way you do. EVERYONE here has given you solid advice i have nothing to say except you need to take a step back, put your ego in check and listen to these people. Closed door projects? really man? none of us care. compact cars only?? you can't do that. Hell you can't just be an exterior designer anymore you need to be able to do everything. So read my post, take it to heart and learn how to take advice from people. You don't need to respond to this post but just change your attitude and listen to all the people telling you stuff on this site okay? good luck your starting young don't waste the opportunity you have!
