I always catch myself drawing cars... when doing chemistry or taking some test, or watching a video in texas governemt class... right now my gpa is about 2.0 or so... the only thing I do with passion is work on my bmw 325i (e30) and draw cars/landscapes, other stuff is just a "requirement" to get through life for me, (getting a petroleum eng degree or some financing bs) you know what I mean, when I talk to other people they say "you really want to design door handels to cars your whole life??" that somewhat pisses me off because they don't know jack about car desing... Well, the only thing I love to do is draw. I never had any professional schooling, just some fine art classes at school. Here is my proposition to start living and not going to what everybody else are telling/doing. Take a semester/year worth of art classes at ACC (austin community college), build a portfolio, apply at ACCD. Get accepted, draw the **** out of all paper I would buy there, get internship (shoot for big ones ofcourse). Graduate with huge debt and do what I would not sleep for. What do you guys think? Now, some questions arise, I moved to US 6yrs ago, obviously my parents can not support me, would it make that much differece to start ACCD night or my community college ($700/15hrs sem)? I went to university for my freshman year, failed (just feel indifferent to stuff I did there...)

As for examples of my work, you can search my name and some old stuff will come up, I will also scan some new stuff when I'll have time, now I gotta go to work. I feel like this is turning point in my life, because once I will start going to car desing, I feel like I'll end up being an audi or bmw design VP.. meaning, nothing will stop me.

I always say do whatever that you know will make you happy. My parents wanted me to go into the field of computers, so I did that for nearly two years. Then I decided it was not what I wanted to do and that it does not make me happy, so I switched over to what I always wanted to do; car design. Now I've taken 1.5 years worth of transferable credits to ccs and will transfer over next Fall. I'm really happy with my decision and wouldn't change it for anything.

If you're low on money with no support from parents, I would recommend that you take some transferable credits at ACC. I don't know much about the art center at night, so I can't offer much help on that.

Good luck!

EDIT: By the way, where are you from? It sounds like you're British because you said petroleum.

Take few classes at the public program ACCD offers. I was on the same boat last summer, gave up my graduate school and talked my wife into moving out to Cali from Chicago. As of now, I am planning to take two additional classes from the public program and aim for fall admissions.

At the public program, I've met students who appeared highly passionate about car design but lacking in discipline and endurance, eventually falling out of the class. Exposing yourself in program like this would be valuable because you'll be able to guage your fit in this field. Don't have the money? Art Center at Night offers scholarship based on portfolio and need where they will reward you with one free class per term.

Thanks for replies! Like you guys are saying, I just feel indifferent to other stuff but drawing, cars in particular. I guess I'll start on researching the living in Pasadena.

P.S. I'm Russian, from Tashkent.

Hey man, look at it this way, this will shape your future career. I made the same decision you are trying to make 2 years ago. After high school I decided to move the Pasadena and start at ACCD. I did intro to prod and trans and got in for spring 2007 here I am now 3rd term at Art Center and I am so glad I made that move. Sometimes you just have to go for it and don't look back. I think i made the best decision of my life thus far. I am Bulgarian and know what you are going through... if you have any questions I can help you out. Good luck with everything.

hey ther us, well see its kinda hard to reccomend you schools and calsses wihtout seeing ur work...so just spend good 5 min and scan in one of ur best or wat u call average work, and post it up, then i will be more than willing to help u out. but yeah if i were u, seems like ACN is a very helpful place, enevr heard anythign negative from it. So if you believe you are lacking in skill, then you should def. take the class, or even go to pasadena city college and then after couple years of building up ur portfolio, try out accd or ccs. good luck!

Even non-vehicular drawings are transferrable skills. Compositional skills, line quality, figure drawing, graphics, etc. will all contribute into your future trans. design education.

hey rusoman,
one thing to keep in mind:
talk is cheap. you can say anything you want, like: "once i start car designing, nothing will stop me"

noone will really believe you until you start proving something. actions speak louder than words. remember that.

just my 2 cents.
Smile
