Nonsense, they dont need two copies of the same sketch.

If you've got good original sketches put them into a sketchbook. A portfolio should demonstrate your all round abilities so put in your best work, be it sketching, rendering, CAD, tech drawings, even a moodboard. I'd suggest putting the sketches of a particular project into a sketchbook and duplicate a key sketch in your portfolio presentation to link portfolio and sketchbook.

OK so from what I'm getting here I can print off collections like the Mazda I posted earlier on high quality paper and send it to them? What about something like this (photoshop rendering), can I just print this off and send it to them as a piece? http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f4/mountdoug/FinalCad...withoutwatermark.jpgI don't want to send my original sketches, because I am so far away from the schools, I'm afraid they'll get lost or damaged. Also I plan on scanning a few pages of my sketchbook and sending them that as well. And of course the figure drawings and still life stuff.

actually accd highly recommand applicants to send original sketch so they can determine how you sketch and techniques rather than sending a photocopy of a plain work.

hmmm so do you think the best idea would be to send a combination of both?
