I'm currently a senior in high school and I'm looking to shoot for transportation design. My art teachers tell me I have very good rendering skills, but I'm sort of lacking in the portfolio department. I only chose that art and ID was a plausible career choice around late september, and TD around mid october, so I don't have many completed works to show. With some background aside, I've got a couple questions:
1. When is the fall semester application deadline for CCS? August 1st seems terribly late. I heard Jan. 7th floating around, but I can't find any source for that anymore. 2. Is marker rendering essential in a TD portfolio? I've never heard of it until very recently... 3. I don't have that many completed vehicles, but just very many sketches of them. What would be a good number of finished vehicles to present? Around 3-4? And what should I do with all those incomplete sketches?
I talked to an ACCD admissions counselor on one of this years' National Portfolio Days, he said my perspective/proportion, ideas, and rendering abilities were pretty good, I just needed completed stuff.
That's it for now, thanks in advance. Sorry if these questions have been asked, I've searched around the forum for a few weeks and I hope these aren't repeats.
(currently applying for ID, TD wherever available: Syracuse U, U. of Michigan, U. Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, RISD, Pratt, AAU, CCS, ACCD)
CCS doesnt want to see cars, really no college except accd wants to see cars in your portfolio, they want want to see your art work...they bascially want to turn artists into car designers...so you need basic observation drawings, and figure drawings fully rendered, realistically
risd and pratt are the best art schools in the country right now, you gotta bring your A game for them
i believe ccs deadline is in march, you can always check the website...

Oh...I see. Thanks a lot. I'm kind of surprised to hear that Pratt's that high up now though, I went there for a pre-college course and I definitely didn't think of it that way!
And I've searched for CCS's deadline on their site, on google, but all that comes up is August 1st - says it on its main admissions requirements page. 8/1 just seems a little too far off to be reasonable. For some reason I've got January 7th but I don't know where that came from.
august 1st it is, if you have'nt requested information, do so...look through the book (its a cool looking school), make sure you want to apply there but don't wait till the aug 1st date, fill out your application online(it's free)... I think you can send your portfolio and transcripts, sat/act scores later on in the future

your art work is really good...if your other work looks like this or better, you really shouldn't have a problem getting into your schools...

thats some good work. Have you ever thought about entertainment design? Some trans students at Art Center end up bored with cars and find more enjoyment in entertainment.
Yeah it looks like you have great art skills and decent ID skills so it should be no problem. Just do a couple of full projects for your portfolio and send it in.
