jj - go and get the Design Intelligence 2006 annual report, it lists dozens of the top IDer's. Check out:

all I know is that the list is very short!

and I would bet that the few on the list have long ago given up actual hands-on design and have been more involved in management and/or self promotion/entrepreneurship...so can you really call J Mays or Giugiaro or Zaccai industrial designers still?
