Hello Everyone What are the best Uni courses in the UK for automotive design and if any one knows is Swansea Institute good. Thank you. it will be great help
I went for a tour and interview at both coventry and swansea institue and i though swansea was very impressive, it has the same facilities as coventry for undergrad use. The tutors seemed nice as well, i've chosen to go to swansea over coventry. I was told the swansea institute enter all the major design shows that the other main unis do which is important as you have to get your name out there! I would say have a good look round the different unis yourself though
It doesn't matter how glitzy the place is. It is the standard of the graduates and how well they are taught.
I know that the Huddersfield tutors are all ex-cov guys, probably the same with Swansea. The fact is the guys who are the tutors now, reckon they can do a better job than their tutors who still tutor at cov, if you see what I mean?
Coventry is still seen as one of the best, even though they are churning out 100+ graduates each year, some are no where near industry standard. The list of alumini from Cov is a whole host of world class designers.
At Cov, you also get to enter any competition you wish too! The 2004 World Auto Design contest Coventry students wiped the floor with the opposition!
I know RCA run a very good course but i have not looked at them in much detail. Northumbria University appeared on that list in rcarr's link and i know huddersfield and bolton run similar courses but again i don't know how good they are.
As I have said Coventry is supposedly "one of the best in the world". These kind of comments come from from publications outwith the university's control, ie Magazines, newspapers, tv etc.
Coventry's a dump but graduating is means all your friends are in OEMs and design consultancies all over the place, which is handy when you want a job.
