I was wondering at what DPi is best for printing a portfolio? I have everything scanned at 300dpi (the requirement from CCS) and intend to print it on an 11.5 by 23.3 size paper (A2).

If I create this in Photoshop at 72dpi, it puts a lot less strain on my computer, and is easier to work with. Would it work with that? If I make my layouts at 72 dpi and print them on A2 paper, would the drawings look blurry?

I intend to send originals as well (pretty much for everything), and the printing thing is just for the layout and explanation of my ideas/projects. For CCS I intend to have everything at 300dpi but not laid out, in addition to the laid out one (preferably at 72dpi).

for those of you who have printed your portfolios, what were your settings?

it will look blurry and affect the legibility of your typeface. 72DPI is ideally for web or jpegs to load faster. you can get away with 200 dpi. just try 200-300 dpi settings. the best bet is to keep everything 300 dpi and just continuously flatten your image throughout the process.

mr burns, are you applying to art center this coming Feb or March? If you are, I highly recommend sending in originals on large papers. Lately, I've been seeing several admissions portfolios of students who bring in their work into classes for instructors' feedback. From what I've seen, I would definitely go with originals.

Will start ACCD in Fall, 08

JMV thanks for the info!

han~ yeah I have the still life and figure stuff taken care of. I imagine you also sent originals with that book you made? Did you send everything in both original and printed? or just some (if any)? Also you were considered an international student right? If so what education info did you send? on their website they say all international students need to send their full educational history, but I don't know what would show them that?

angeladay~ Yes I'm applying and sending everything in mid feb (hopefully before the scholarship consideration deadline). I have originals, but they are not on large papers. They are on standard copy papers! Unfortunately I have to eyeball everything in terms of what they like since I live too far away to visit and consult with instructors and counselors.

In the end I am going to send all (or most) of the originals as well as the A2 sized layout (estimated at 30 pages, but probably a bit more). I hope I don't "oversend" or even worse, "undersend".

Well the Portfolio is almost done. I downsized it to 12x18, and although my layout lost some of it's cohesiveness it's still decent. I hope to send it off next week, next next monday at the latest. I just hope I have the formula right. It is ~90% sketches (~70% of which are at the level of say that bus I posted earlier) ~7% marker work, and ~3% digital renderings. I only included some digital work to show I'm not afraid of using digital media. The emphasis is strongly on sketching.

Some people have said the Karmann Ghias I posted a little while ago were my best work so far, well they are the worst in the portfolio, and I'm considering not including them. There is quite a bit of text though, an "About Me" section, an "About This Portfolio" section, as well as a lot of descriptions here and there.

I'll be posting parts of it online after I receive their response, and "beta testing" parts of it online later next week.

I hope they like it!
