I'm currently thinking about applying for a Transport design course and would like help on my Personal Statement. What are the main points i should talk about? and how long should i make it? It would also be helpful if i could have a look at sample personal statements for transport/automotive design courses as i have had trouble finding any. This should help me better understand what Universities are looking for in a personal statement. Any help would be appreciated.
mention any awards you have received for any artistic/designy type things youve done. any skills/experience you have had with digital (modelling) programs. also try to say you are keen to learn new skills. they love all that. make it as long/short as you want really. just end with something specific about the course. and whatever you do, don't start with 'ever since i was a little boy the only thing that i wanted to do was become a car designer' (in fact leave out the whole background story altogether!). the chances of you going into a car design job after uni (unless of course you are immensely talented and you still work **** hard) are very small. say you are merely looking at this as a stepping stone from school, into a job into the design field.
seeing youre in sheffield (therefore obv in uk) youll be applying to cov, hudds, northumb, etc. if you apply, they pretty much ask you for an interview. they dont base much on the personal statement, its more what talent youve got. or even potential talent. so thats aboot it. good luck
Show that your passionate about the subject, make sure they see your interrested in all aspects of auto design and not just picking a subject about cars because it sounds 'cool'.
