ditto. ditto. what he said.
yeah, I will show up this Friday for the Financial Aid meet. Then I will decide whether I am going to attend or not (or defer enrollment??)... I'll try to bring something on Friday too. But don't expect too much yeah?
well i got in for the winter semester but decided to wait till the fall to start taking classes, i have to re-apply which sucks, i dunno where exactly i'm starting either cause i was at ccs allready for 2 years. i suppose i should do that soon
Ok, words cannot express how extremely pissed off I am right now. I got my portfolio back from ACCD, and it seems they didn't even LOOK at the main part of it! I had a booklet made (like Han did) but when I got it from the print shop, it was in a sealed, clear plastic bag. I put my name on it with a label telling them to remove the plastic and dispose of it so they could look at the portfolio inside, and sent it off with the originals. Now I have my portfolio back, and IT IS STILL IN THE SEALED PLASTIC BAG!! With my labels on it and everything! Just like it was when I sent it! THEY DIDN'T LOOK AT IT!
When I talked to ACCD about why I wasn't accepted, they said my projects were good, but they would have liked to see them completed to a higher standard. Of course IN THE BOOKLET where everything was PROPERLY laid out on LARGE paper, with writing and descriptions and arrows and images etc... the projects were actual complete projects! not just sketches on paper (which is all it seems they looked at) that made it difficult to determine what was ideation and what was complete and what my target audience was and what the specific elements of the final design were!
In other words I am confident had they looked at the actual portfolio, and used the originals as a supplement, instead of just looking at the originals and trying to figure out my projects, I would have gotten accepted!!
I spent a ton of time laying that booklet out and explaining my ideas and they didn't even look at it
I actually made an account to respond to this, you shouldn't take that crap burns, you need to call them and make SURE they understand what happened, don't let them off the hook for this one. reapply if you have to, but don't let that be the reason you didn't get in.
You know it's really things like this that make me question the world. I mean when I first applied to my own local university, they accepted me but for some stupid reason thought I was an international student, and started billing me as such (over twice as high tuition!). It took me two weeks and a lot of help from my highschool teachers and counselors to convince them that I was not an international student, that I was born in Canada, lived in canada all my life and went to school in Canada. And they STILL keep sending me international student newsletters every week in my email, even after I asked them to stop. God damn it.
This latest blunder by Art Center really re-enforces how the education system sucks, and how appearances are everything in this world, regardless of fact or reality. I wonder what surprises the next college I apply to has in store for me...
And Z-grey-21, I am NOT going to let them off the hook on this one, this is just unacceptable. When I give them 70 dollars as an application fee, in return I expect them to at least review my application.
wow, i was surprised when i heard you didn't get in, you've improved alot over the past year. apparently my surprise was justified. i was rooting for you too, partly because if you got in, i would have an idea of what ACCD is looking for (since i've seen loads of your work over the last few months)
hell that pisses me off too that they didn't even bother looking at your main booklet...seems that apalling ineptitude in the educational system isn't just limited to my school district, unfortunately.
anyway, good luck mr burns, i hope they'll see sense and accept you this time (is it too late for fall semester though?)
just so guys know. accd is currently interested in accepting almost everyone. the only reason why you did not get in is probably because they already filled their quota. although accd would like all of you to think it has high standards that is no longer really the case. they are solely interested in making a profit. the BS BA programs are being turned in to ITT tech style technical training programs that quickly graduate students (even more so than b4- LOL). accd will most likely continue to cut down on the amount of transferred credits from other schools while also accepting younger individuals in to their undergrad programs. (thus lowering the quality of work in those programs - no offense i know this is not always the case) the reason for this is accds expansion in graduate programs. for those of you who want to attend you might get shortchanged (most people feel this way after graduating anyway) just be cautious and aware that its prestige is not what it used to be and it will be up to you to live up to the standard - and if you are indeed less experienced and mature you will have a hard time doing this - however I wish you good luck.
This is quite irritating.. i've also stood by art center, held it up on a pedestal and looked forward to going there(not only do i love the environment when i've visited the school but i love the pasadena area/so cal in general. However during my time of preparing myself to apply to the school I've seen more and more students being accepted who's work is anything but innovative, their designs look like something that came out 2 years ago(which means they were thought of atleast 6 years ago)
Along with hearing more and more online here that ACCD is not what we all think it is.. i'm getting kind of annoyed. Like a little kid who realizes santa claus isn't real.
I've seen numerous posts by current students who aren't happy with the program..
Everyone has always said it doesn't REALLY matter where you go as long as you kick ass at design. However Art Center WILL get your worked viewed by the most eyes making it the easiest for you to in fact get noticed.. I'm really starting to wonder if its worth the what, 16k a term?
I feel like the only people i constantly see talking GOOD about the school are those of us who are trying to get in. The only things i hear about students currently going their are negative comments. Maybe its just because they can't hack it at the school and are thus inclined to complain about it to others(while the students doing well are too busy doing well to bother posting stuff about their school online)
This was a terribly long, unorganized rant but it's a brief glimpse of all my thinking recently.
**Burns i've never thought your work was the definition of Innovation, but i'm also not in charge of reviewing work at Art Center so my opinion doesn't matter all that much i suppose. However if it makes you feel better i've seen accepted kids work that would get its ass kicked by yours. And that's ridiculous if they really didn't view your main portfolio!
RAWRRRRRRR this is all so annoying, i'm becoming quite inclined to learn german and apply to P.. but then i'll be more worried about my german than my drawing skills.. as;ljdfasfldk;sa
..Coventry...?
Someone just tell me the best school to go to for Trans Design already!!!!!
Relax, I don't think there really is a "best" right now. It seems that both CCS and ACCD are going through a rough transitional period. It's simply the nature of the industry. Think about it. Since these schools are so closely tied to the industry, if the industry is going through a transitional phase, then wouldn't the schools as well? You'll always hear complaints from students at these schools no matter what, it's just the nature of the whole scenario.
But at the end of the day, students are still being made offers by the time of their graduation or shortly after (at least the one's that are sincere in their efforts). I hate to say it, but being a student at these schools is almost like getting into politics. Take all the good that they have to offer, and leave all the other stuff for someone else.
