^ haha whats up Mahdi? did i hear your gonna graduate with the 09 class?

you guys have to stop worshiping these schools, the best qoute i've ever heard when we were bugging a ccs teacher which was better art center or ccs he said: "THE SCHOOL DOESN'T MATTER, YOU CAN SUCCEED ANYWHERE YOU GO, I WENT TO WAINE STATE AND AM IN CHARGE OF THE CAMERO'S INTERIOR. BOTH SCHOOLS HAVE THE TEACHERS A FACILITIES IT UP TO THE STUDENTS DO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM."

relax,if your just coming from highschool you will forget everything you think you know about design anyways-and you won't be happy with the way it works, your pretty much on your own.

if you didn't get in sweet-take advantage of it. I didn't make it in to junior trans at ccs and it was the best thing that happened to me. i got to take a break, work on my art as a whole, party, have fun, get some generals, grow up, get **** figured out with my life.

go to community college and get generals done, party your ass off and get some pussy cause you won't have time at design school, grow up, figure yourself out then transfer to to accd or ccs and kick some ass because people weren't as wise and you and went right from highschool. If i could go back in time thats what i would do

Or get married with the right person before starting design school. I can't imagine doing this without my spouse's support. Smile

Hey Mr. Burns,

I'm sorry to hear about the situation with your portfolio and Art Center. I'm glad that you are going to call Art Center and get to the bottom of this. These schools do make alot of mistakes. You have to ask lots of questions and make copies of all your documents.

Before I presented my portfolio to CCS for acceptance, I called them numerous times to make sure I had done everything right. However, I almost didn't get my scholarship because thay kept confusing me with another student with the same first name.

I agree with some of you guys comments that there is too much emphasis on ACCD and CCS and which is the better school.

Just because you get into ACCD or CCS doesn't mean that you will get a job after graduation.
It really depends on how good your work is and how the market is at that time.

Also, they are not going to teach you everything about design. They will give you the basics, then you have to learn everything else from your classmates and internships.

Lastly, the quality of these top design schools change from year to year based on how good the Junior and Senior level work is. When I was at CCS, Coventry and RCA had the best work. Now they're not as good. At least in my opinion.

you should check out the academy of art. tuition is cheaper than both accd and css (7k a semester) and we're ranked 3rd in the country behind them. who knows, maybe not for long? anyway, we have just as high of a standard of work as they do, good instructors, and tom matano running the school. company's come in all the time for sponsor projects and all that stuff too. well connected, and getting better.
also, san francisco is a fun city.
anyway, im happy where i am. maybe you should check it out or look up some info on it.
good luck!

I don't think there is anything Art Center can do for me now. The best case scenario would be them asking me to resend my portfolio for proper evaluation, but they have likely accepted all the applicants they have space for by now, and I would as well apply for jan with a better portfolio than resend.

I guess I was just extremely unlucky, so unlucky that this clearly marked giant 12x18inch 32 page book went by them unnoticed.

The only option is to apply again for Jan, but I don't know if I should resend the book (still in it's sealed plastic) as well, or spend another $100 and make a new one...

I mean if they hadn't accepted me even after seeing the book then I would at least know I have to improve and re-apply to get accepted, but right now I don't know if it was good enough already...

This is just so unfair.

HOWEVER I could take this as a sign, that if they had seen the book, and thus accepted me, something bad might have happened, and that fate wants me to apply for jan? But I still stand by my Art Center or nothing policy.

mr burns, have you also applied to CCS and academy of art university? those are the other top 2 in the country, and AAU has way lower tuition (though since its in san francisco, living expenses might balance it out). i'm planning on applying to all 3, if that's possible...personally art center is the one i think will benefit me most but AAU's lower tuition and location (SF is awesome) are very attractive...

Sorry to hear that Burns, somewhat a weird situation you have with them...but its a lesson I've learned in college I'm in right now, and it was that clients or any of the people who will look at your portfolio need to be guided like they don't know what they looking at or for, meaning make everything simple, accessible, direct and organized, otherwise like in your case some of your work goes unnoticed. You should of removed the plastic from that booklet, because in their case they have to go through hundreds of applicant portfolios and little thing like unpacking or removing cover plastics falls short of their time management to look through all submitions, cause remember afterwards they have to review again the selected portfolios for scholarship and all, its a tight deadline for them as well...on the side note, i still haven't heard from them yet myself actually :{

Mr. Burns,

The admission quota IS NOT FULL. The deadlines on their catalogue ONLY REFERS to scholarship deadlines for each term. I even know of people from the night class here that are still applying for the summer term. Admissions at ACCD is on rolling basis, meaning that if they like what you see, they will accept you with gurantee of placement in requested term in the condition that you forward the tuition deposit by certain date. Therefore, they can admit you all year around as long as the quota has not been filled. You should call and ask regarding their admissions schedule for the upcoming fall if you are still interested in applying.

On another note, the admissions office does not look at everything all applicants send in. In addition, I've also gotten used to seeing instructors just flipping through students' admissions portfolio when they bring them in for a review. They will not read call-outs and texts. Development of design should be apparent as they are just flipping through your pages. At the same time, they should be able assess your drawing skills how they are improving as they are laid out chronologically.

Will start ACCD in Fall, 08
