To Modsquad and Maximusdecimus,
You are both students at the moment, both Janet and I are in the "real world," Janet has a job at the moment, I have just left a Masters course, I am now looking!
I know what it was like when I was 14, my passion was in cars and design in particular! I didnt care how much I would get paid at that stage! I am still not bothered how much I am paid as long as I can get a job in the industrial design business and the amount I get paid is enough to live on!
Just wait till you are out in the industry, you may be one of the lucky ones, I dont know how good you are? You might get a job straight out of uni! Then you can pass judgement, but for now neither of you know how it is looking for a job!
If you look on that Toyota advert, it says at least 10years car design experience, ie in general when you are pushing 40 you will be able to earn approx £50k+
Graduates are lucky if they are earning £20k+ maybe slightly under 30k if you work for a major oem!

Yeah. Thing is my clientele expect a certain inimitable poo-fessionality. Although I do know a guy who needs some asbestos removed but cant afford the safety gear- did you know Scottish 'people' are immune to asbestosis? True Fact. Anyway I've an engagement so I'll hand over to my ever-diplomatic press secretary to field this. Herb?

i worked for two years as a junior designer and all i got paid was hand shandys. not bad if u can get it.
janet ur right about scottish "people" being immune to asbestos. in fact theyre ability to live and work in filthy and disgusting situations is astounding. scotland is yet to have any form of sanitation system and they only invented toilet paper last year. yet somehow they dont seem to mind. then again, it could just be the heroin blocking out their misery.

Well, I don't want to work in Japan, been their, done that. It was great, but it wasn't home. One good thing, being from the US, I got lots of attention from the girls. Where as in Germany I was treated as a necessary evil. In Italy I only got along with the folks from Spain. (perhaps, in germany, I should not of asked where the 'old part of town' was)(I wasn't thinking at that moment) Having graduated a while ago I can't really comment on the pay, but I hire new folks in (with 2-3 years expierence) 60K US. And you don't have to be a car guy. (sorry, no openings) That sucks about the pay in europe. Seems like Janet has a hold on it though. But then, she can think. Which is different from being able to draw. But then I don't draw much anymore, just use the spell check alot. Right now I have 7 different papers on our projects on my desk, along with a date book full of meetings, a small moleskine note book, a sketch book that hasen't been drawn in in 3 days and a LP of the Cramps "songs the lord taught us" I just got off ebay. Along with a coke in a batman cooler, the hot wheels ' B.A.T. 9, a 1/25 model of a 1973 mustang mach 1, a photo of my kid on my shoulders from the last vacation 2 years ago, an old kenwood stereo that has my I pod hooked to it and hasen't been turned on in a week. 2 phones, a pencil sharpener, a tablet PC and my alias workstation and the alias isn't up. No drawing supplies in sight. But I do have a really nice studio, desks, great computers and co-workers. Cool art on the walls and our product everywhere. Not bad at all. Now what was this about?.........oh yeah, pay. It's enough.
