Dude, I did a sketch on a McDonalds bag that I cut out and stuck in my portfolio.

Unless you're talking about some article that says 'I'm s***hot at design' then I'd stick it in one of the sleeves with the sketchbooks.

newsprint is actually the best thing to turn in as part of your portfolio. as ccs transportation/automotive classes, every student uses newsprint. simply because it takes in prismacolor and verithin easly. i would recommand you to draw on 18 by 24 size newsprint and add in some renderings on vellum. That's good to know. It's simply that a few ACAN teachers seem to despise newsprint for some odd reason.

nah bro
(atleast i've never seen any)

it's called newsprint because its recycled paper(basically the same stuff actual newspapers on printed on). It's the softest sexiest medium you'll ever set your pencil on(or atleast i have yet to find anything softer)

and yes
it's CHEAP!!!!

*make sure to scan/photograph anything god you do on it tho cuz i don't believe its very archival :/
