I'm now 16 years old and I want to become a car designer. But first, I must apply for a good design school( in 2 years). Do you think that I'll be ready in 2 or 3 years if I want to apply for the top design schools like ACCD and Coventry or should I forget about car design as a career? Here is my little portfolio for now Please take a look at it and rate it if you wish. Thanks
Your portfolio looks good for a 16 year old. Do you have any sketches that you can show? These big art schools, like CCS and Art Center, want to see sketches more so than photoshop renderings.
I like the creativity that you are showing in your designs. This shows that you are pushing the envelope and thinking outside of the box. This is what they look for in trans students. You show a nice mixture of near future to way out conceptual designs.
If I were you, I would focus on getting a scholarship into the schools you are most interested in. I would take as many art classes as possible. I would take some figure drawing classes to better your sketching skills. If you can, I would take some night or summer trans courses.
Also, I would contact schools like ACCD, CCS, or Coventry and find out what they look for in their portfolios. If you are near an art school, then they should have a "portfolio day" where schools like Art Center and CCS come to look at student portfolios and give feedback.
lastly, I think you are much more developed than I was at 16. You also have more resources with such programs as Rhino. I didn't even own a computer when I started at CCS. And I got a scholarship.
Also, I would look at Mr. Burns forum responses for coming "right out of highschool". There is a wealth of information there.
These design schools are very competitive, so it will be up to you to decide if you are ready to get into one of these schools straight out of highschool.
If I had to rate your portfolio, I would say that your side views look much better than your 3/4 views. Your three Quarter views look too soft and muffled. I would try to add some of the same details that are in your sides views to your 3/4 views.
