gsmales - build your own pc its just as cheap and you get exactly what you want, failing that, theres loads of little shops around cov that'll make one for you quite cheap, like ABC computers. they aint great tho. PC World are good but expensive for servicing - get the right package and they'll come to you if theres probs, type of expensive insurance.
I'ld defo recommmend getting a super-duper all singing all dancing graphics card though, thats the main ingredient for being able to do alias and photoshop without having to wait too long for your computer. don't worry too much about a processer but oodles and oodles of ram helps more then a processor upgrade half the time. and this isnt only for alias, it also helps playing games!!
thanks cfru, i think i'll wait til i get to cov now, only 8 days away! who could i get a copy of alias off? *cough* what happens in the first week? freshers...
hey guys, just a quick one to say I cant wait to get back to uni. I'm gonna have alotta fun in my final year. See you in freshers week, with all the newbies!!

im looking forward to checking out other peoples work and learning new techniques off you lot. im gonna need a bit off help with studio tools and photoshop tho.
What exactly happens in freshers week? or what would you recommend doing? I cant wait to start now, im off to Cov this saturday Oh and should i be looking to get a job and how hard is it to find one?
Coventry is not like other cities. Theres minimal nightlife, work is hard to find, the locals are poor and generally hostile, the other students are not the sharpest knives in the drawer etc. The streets throng with alcoholics and mutants and everyone seems content to wallow in their decrepit ruin of a town, stumbling around on twisted legs in a mood of mellow despair that can be infectious to the most ambitious designer. Even though its smack in the Midlands you'll notice there's no Coventry accent, presumably because there's zero civic pride and no-one wants to be known to be from Cov. It aint Sheffield or Leeds or anywhere good buddy, sorry.
