ctrillolguevara,

Money will always be a problem, but there is always the possibility to get financial aid.
It's not easy, I knew a few people that were just absolutely awesome when they first started school, they did get almost full scholarship, but they'll always have to prove it every term that they are worth the money - no free ride for them either.

If I were you, prep yourself in some community college or with Art Center @ Night Classes. Look around the campus if you can, notice the level of competency for 2nd or 3rd or even 4th term students, you want to shoot for that level. If you can demonstrate that level of competency to start school I am pretty sure they will be pretty happy to give you almost full scholarship.

I wasn't that lucky, I only got some but not much.

So what am i trying to say? After Attending 3 major design schools CCS, Mcad (furntiure design), and now ACCD i can tell you.
- Yes they are going to steal your money get used to it
-Things aren't perfect, becoming a car designer is really hard, you will most likely hate the school you graduate from no matter where you go. 99% of whether you succeed or not is up to YOU, not the teachers, staff etc.
-You can't have expectations that your school is going to be perfect, everybody has your best interest in mind, and ACCD is something special, its not. It's an elite design school sure but in the ranks of CSS, Pforhzeim, Strate, IED,Umea etc It really isn't any different besides the heritage.

DFish,
that's good. I agree with what you are saying.
Congrats for your admission!

Hope that helps.

MeanMINI,

Thanks for the post! It's very helpful to read a post from the school's graduate. I had a question regarding scholarship for continuing students. How generous is the school with these?

I was orginally planning to apply for Spring with stronger portfolio to get as much scholarship as possible but ended up applying only after one term at Art Center @ Night for this Fall--hoping that I would be able to shoot for extra scholarship from their annual scholarship award for continuing students.

It's kind of hard to gauge at that time their criteria for the scholarships.

I know I had a disadvantage getting into the scholarship review..I wasn't the poorest in the class. That alone was a big factor to determine that I wasn't worthy of the full scholarship.

The recipient for these full scholarships were quite rare, probably one or two persons in one major per term. So it wasn't easy money for people.

I am not sure about right now, as they are trying to use the money for the new building (maybe)...but maybe it's better now, I can't really tell.

Maybe you can ask the counselor over there though, what are the criterias for the full scholarship?
I can guess they'll tell you you have to be a bad ass designer living in a beat up VW microbus in the campus parking lot- haha

It is nicer though if you can start with good amount of scholarship, even if they have the right to take it away when they see you slacking.

Hope it helps.

Thanks MeanMINI.

I thought that the resident of VW microbus was an urban legend of the hillside campus?? lol!

What year did you graduate?? What are you doing now careerwise?

It wasn't an urban legend, a friend of mine was living in it, though I am not sure if he received full scholarships Razz

Summer 2000

Career is good now, I am doing something that can affect many more people than the four/five passengers in a car
It was a rocky start-I didn't get a car job (an idea trans designers should be prepared with). I wasn't happy about it and obsessed with the idea of going back to LA, but Seattle definitely grew on me...traffic is better, air is better..not the rain though ha ha.I love it here now.
I am not a car designer - though the sound of finely tuned ICE still tickles me.
