Hi I'm a 17yr old student wanting to become a car designer. I've picked my subjects for the leaving cert (Irish equivalent of A levels)and am doing maths, physics, art (as well as French, English etc) The thing is that I really don't know which universities to apply to. I have looked through the universities listed on here and in the UK the only one I'd consider going to is Swansea-I know Coventry has a good reputation etc but I just don't want to go there. The RCA only offers masters courses I believe. I hope to do a Masters in the IED in Turin, so wonder whether Swansea would be a good place to start. What I'm really interested in knowing is whether there are other places in the UK (preferably in the South West or London) that have a good reputation for offering design causes that are appropriate for becoming a car designer. Also do many universities on the continent offer their courses in English? Because I'd love to go to Italy or France straight away, but my French isn't good enough to do a degree in, while my Italian is v limited...the IED offer a degree through English in Turin, but I am fearful of the cost. The Ma I hope to do their will set me back €20k plus, and I really don't want to get into big debt from my university degree as well-anyone know whether there are grants for EU students studying abroad? Thanks!

Hi Fiatrox, Huddersfield, Swansea, apparently Staffordshire Uni?, Northumbria and Cov all do "Transport Design" If you want to go elsewhere in the UK, you might as well do Industrial Design and do an MA in transport. The RCA is not something that you pay for and get in, the selection process is very difficult and each student is hand picked for the standard of their work.

I believe UMEA's Masters transport degree is in English.

Are certain industrial design courses more related to car design than others? I guess u hae to submit a portfolio for most design courses does this portfolio have to be all related to the subject of your desired course, because I really like drawing people and have quite a large collection of pictures of them-also of buildings etc. Most of my car related drawings are quick sketches...so I don't think they'd eally be appropriate for a portfolio
