I just got an e-mail from an adviser at CCS saying that they have denied my portfolio for entry into CCS. I've seen the work of some CCS students at CCS, and honestly I can compare my work to some of them.
Two years ago I took some of my work in to CCS and they said that everything looked good except I needed more direct observation pieces. Well, I took some art classes such as figure drawing and did very well. I received excellent grades and included a few of my direct observation pieces into my portfolio, but somehow it's not good enough for CCS. I just don't understand.
With my job gone, car sold, and plans to move out of this place where I'm currently staying... I have no idea what to do. This has got to be the worst day of my life.
That sounds harsh. Have you asked exactly why you were turned down? Did you apply early enough to enroll for this semester? Perhaps if you show us some of the pieces in your portfolio we can give some perspective on things.
I ran into a similar situation recently with an internship. Things went from great to...nothing.
CCS Automotive Senior "Use no way as way, Have no limitation as limitation" - Bruce Lee "Take notes on the world, there will be a test" - Chris Bangle
I wrote the adviser a semi-lengthy response explaining to him my situation, asking for what exactly was the problem and if I could still be admitted. All I need is the chance to get in, I'll fix whatever problem it is that got in the way of my acceptance.
My art teachers here in a community college seemed to like my work to give me a 4.0, but it seems that they're not even good enough to get me entry into CCS. And I have been in contact with the adviser, the deadline is the 16th of this month, so I'm not exactly late.
As for posting my portfolio, it's at CCS at the moment. I have until the end of this month to apply at AAU, but it's across the country and very inconvenient for me, especially at this time.
CCS is not tough to get in, but it's either your not as good as you think your are or the school has no more spots available. When i appllied to ACCD they said on their form that the deadline for application was early August, but they were already full by early july. So my guess would be thesame with CSS that they just dont have anymore room for you and the rest of others...you should of sent your portfolio alot earlier then wating till the last minute, some people send their portfolios a year ahead!
Shano. I heart they are cutting transport major for the fall 2008. I think probably –solution it is make a little trick- go to product design and than during 1 semester- change the major. This is a little risky but you are already will be in the ID department.
^^Thats true freshmen year you must take product studio even if you are a transportation major. I'm not sure what you mean by cutting trasport major for fall but I know there will be a transportation studio in the fall (probably 4 classes worth) as well as automotive clay and interior studio.
Good luck man.... I don't know what to say
The schools reaction sounds odd.
There is always community college which might actually be the smarter move because you can get your required liberal art's classes out of the way for little or no money (they cost waaay too much at CCS) plus, there will be alot more girls at CC, trust me :P
Sure, it is possible that my work is not good enough, but I can't be sure that's the reason until they actually give me a reason as to why I was not accepted.
They still have yet to answer my e-mail, and my adviser's answering machine is still saying that he'll be on vacation until May 28th (wtf? why doesn't he change his answering machine's message? lol) every time I call. What the hell is going on at CCS? This is some terrible service.
And I've already taken 4 semesters worth of classes at a community college that transfer over to CCS based on their transfer guide, which was given to me by an adviser at CCS. I don't want to just throw all of that away for nothing.
do you have any random sketches lying around that you can show us? anything that we can use to gauge your skill level.
I'd honestly follow up on this, chances are it's something other than your portfolio....are you sure you made the deadline? filled out all the forms? etc.
It's not that hard to get in, there was probably some mistake...
