i'm not sure if it's a new program, but university of cincinnati isn't an art school like art center, ccs, cia and such.
So oddly enough, they don't look at your portfolio. whatsoever.
so the only actual "merit scholarship" you're eligible for is academics. i heard that it is 2nd best in trans. design after art center, but i don't believe that the school shouldn't need a portfolio from their students to go into the trans. design department.
call 'em up, find out what you wanna know. but as for me, i know i'm not applying because of my lack of academic skills but if you're willing to find some cash through your SAT scores or your GPA, go for it!
Advice from a parent going through the process, looking into Trans. Design... The program at DAAP-UC is extremely hard to get into...after many conversations with admissions, there were over 400 applicants for ID and Trans program, half of them didn't even qualify, so you're still looking at 15 spots to fill out of 200 applicants? need a minimum GPA 3.5 and ACT 25. (My son had a GPA 3.6 and ACT 26 and still couldnt get into Trans. Frankly, you are just a number to them, no portfolio requirement, go figure. They only want the "cream of the crop" but how do they know if they're getting creative/talented kids? You can't teach that!! Look at other good programs out. CCS, LTU and if anyone thinks they're really talented, Pasadena.
Interesting talk from the folks out there. As a soon to be graduate of the UC transportation design program I feel I need to speak up. While UC does not require a portfolio it does require that you work your a** off. It is a five year program that is rooted in pure Industrial Design. ACCD and CCS are very good schools, don't get me wrong, but graduating as a "designer" is tough to do from there. Yes you'll be able to draw the best and render the best but this isn't design. UC teaches you the thought behind a design whether it is a product or a car and you learn every aspect of design from idea to reality. Talent can not be taught, true, but how you apply that talent is another story. I personally would not trade my education from UC for one from any other place and I mean that. I hate to preach like this but nobody knows anything about our program and that is a shame. The trans. program is young but the overall ID department is proven over time. Does that matter? Yes. I can name many designers in the industry today that came from UC and would agree with me. I agree that some talented people are missed while some "fools" get in, this is unfortunate but just a part of life. If you are that smart and talented then you can get in anywhere so don't complain. Sorry again about preaching.

That is great, I never said that other schools were no good. They a great. Trans. is their specialty. I am not attacking other schools I am just trying to open peoples eyes to what else is out there. If you want a public school with a great college life, a school that costs under $10,000 dollars a year ($24,000 out of state, sorry) and a highly rated program UC is your only choice.

So you're implying that with all the notable graduates from ACCD and CCS, somehow those schools still neglect teaching the thought process behind design as well?
