Al, that Land Rover image has been taken completely out of context, I have improved since 3rd year, quite a bit! The people that have contacted me about placements seem to like my stuff.
I am not looking for a styling job. I don't want to be designing wing mirrors or bumpers for an OEM, I would rather be building my own cars in a shed and racing them. This is why I need capital to realise my dream.

My LMP Mercedes has been my best work to date and that is the direction I want to go. Designing racing cars in a windtunnel.

The engineering wasn't that bad! I just could get my head round the theory of electronics of data aquisition, inverting amplifiers etc, the structures, aero, management modules etc were fine. I could have stuck at it and gained a PGCert in Motorsport Engineering and Management.
Most of the guys wanted to be race engineers or work for suppliers of race teams, brakes, suspension etc.

I am out of my Dad's financial backing, Ive had to pay for the last course and this 1 off my own back! Why do you resent me for my Dad paying for my 1st degree? Lots of people have their parents pay for their educations!

The world doesn't owe me anything! I want to just get out there! Its my passion!

Urm, well after reading these 4 pages, I'm still not sure..! I've still got some time before I have to put them in order, so its cool..

I've applied for both Automotive Design MDes and Product Design, Still havent got a reply but am hopefull.

Can anyone give me a rough outline of what I need in my portfolio(if I get a positive response, and am asked to attend the portfolio review)..

Roughly how many pages?
How many finished renders, pages of sketches, ideas e.c.t..?

Thanks guys! Smile

The general concensus was design work from art and design foundation or Art n Design/ Design and Technology from school.
A general feel for being able create a form on paper. Lots of car sketches. Observational drawings etc, renderings if you want.

As much stuff as you want but make sure its in order, either newest stuff 1st then older stuff nearer the back or you suprise them with how good you are at the start, then the crapper stuff in the middle then another final "wow" piece at the end.

I think in previous years, since I left, they gave a design project to do before you go.

Once again like JD said, wait for someone like Polomint or Melonball to come online again, they can tell you from an employers point of view.

Hey everybody, I'm in a position similar to Armani's; I am trying to study ID at Virginia Tech. The one thing I don't like about VT is that there is pretty much no way I can pursue an internship here in southwest Virginia, away from most design studios Mad

So my question is this: If I get an ID degree at Virginia Tech but have no intern/co-op experience, do I have just as good a chance of employment as a guy from ACCD or CCS? Confused

ur not going to have a greater chance. especially if you have no intern or employment experience.
after you graduate, you can try for a masters at a foreign school, like RCA, Coventry, Umea, or Pforzhiem, but this path is also may be as expensive as accd or ccs.

Confused

You're going to have to pursue internships on your own, just like getting a job. Contact the companies you want to intern at and inquire about the possibilities. Just because you're not near the design studios does not mean they won't want you. Lots of CCS students apply for interns in california and overseas.

Given this is an automotive design site, I think people forget that the major of interest is entitled 'transportation design, which of course is everything in our transportation world. Buses, motorcycles, scooters, big-trucks, aircraft, boats, and much more. There is an influx of interest for transportation design but those who seem heavily engaged with pursuing this study must keep in mind that there is a lot out there other than just automobiles.
