Hello! I decided to be a car designer, but I'm going to a univeristy which doesn't have anything related to that field, except some art classes, the year is going to be around 15k for it. Now, my choices of the schools are IED in barcelona/turin, univeristy of huddersfield, swansea. I live in USA, but I don't want to stay here, and I heard that school in cali would be more expensive to attend then Europe. I don't have my portfolio, but I can make one... I guess my actual question is: Should I go to that University or should I wait a year, take my portfolio together, take some spanish classes, then apply to design school in europe? What r your oppinions on this one? This is very important to me, I don't know anybody in design field... just people in this forum... you guys are prolly the only ones who could really answer that question. Thank you very much!
I don't know german for pforzheim. I had spanish I+II in school, so I know how to say hi/goodbye... lol it's not enough, but at least i can relate to spanish when i hear it, with german i'm pretty much dead. the other two i never heard of!
Dude check the Coventry degree show on the main Home page to Cardesignews. Its in the West Midlands which youve obviously heard of according to your location thingy.
Coventry is at the top of my list. you apply to the course you really want (automotive design for me) if they dont think your portfolio is up to it they recommend you do the foundation art and design course (which is a free course), and if you pass that, they offer you a place on the course you want (or a course they think you'll be better suited for). ch-ch-check it owwwt.
I think the phorzeim tutors will speak english with you plus some schools like Umea in sweden say their lessons are all in english. Personally think you should give coventry a miss. The best thing they do for you is bring in some of the top guys to see ur stuff come show time but apart from that its too over crowded. I think you should consider north umbria at newcastle, they do there degree show in turin with fiat which seems to work quite well and its a much smaller classs. Last I heard cov were taking on hundreds, my class was 120 before they split it up into these little bull**** courses to hide the numbers.
