I'm moving into the dorms at CCS this Fall, so I wanted to know if any current students have any suggestions for me. Do you guys recommend that I stay in a dorm with 4-5 people, or is anything above 3 just ridiculous? I've visited the dorms and they're quite small, but does it really mater? Do people even spend much time in their dorms with the exception of sleep time?
Also, what kind of things would you recommend that I bring along? Cooking materials? What else?
The dorms are actually quite spacious. I'm in a 4 person and we have plenty of room. I'd go for the 4-5 person just because their cheaper, and from what I hear the 3 person ones are small.
as for what to bring it's really up to you, I'd wait to find out who your roommates are and see what their bringing so you don't end up with extra stuff.
and yeah, you will spend a lot of time in your dorm, it's where you do most of your work.
How exactly do I get a hold of my roommates? I don't want to wait and see what they're bringing because I'm taking everything from home and don't want to buy new things when I get there.
Also, I thought most students spend the majority of their time in classes and labs? From what I gathered during my last visit, the students basically had no social life due to a hefty amount of work. That's fine though, it's something that I'm looking forward to.
the 'no social life' thing is right, and you will be in classes and labs a lot, but you'll have an insane amount of homework, and since the buildings close at 11 most nights you do that in your dorm. I think upperclassmen spend more time in studios (if their working on a clay model or something) but first years don't as much.
and you won't know who your roommates are until you apply for a dorm and see who they put you with, but when that happens you should get their contact information.
you might want to stay in the 2-3 people dorm, trust me, being in ID, living with 4-5 people in the same living room is not easy to concentrate, not everyone at ccs is in ID major, other major guys dont have much work to do in which they will distract you.
From my previous experience at a major university dorm many, many moons ago, your roommates come from all walks of life and background, and some may not practice sound hygienic and timely laundering techniques.
Make sure your gun has a silencer (or build one yourself).
The only reason why I might stay in 4-5 person dorm is the price. It's ridiculous how much extra they charge just to have less roommates. I may have to just ignore the distractions and keep that extra money for school supplies.
I'll keep that disinfecting spray in mind, thanks for that tip. As for the gun, I'll just get one at a discount price from some of the local kids once I get there. They may even throw in a silencer at no extra cost with the purchase of a box of hollow points. lol
I have a small refrigerator that I wanted to bring along, but I'll probably leave it at home if the school provides one in each dorm. Do they provide one?
Also, do you have to bring your own bed, or do they provide one? I have one of those beds that turns into a couch, and I can't sleep without it.
