Coventry is supposedly still the best but Northumbria, Huddersfield, Swansea, Staffordshire are meant to be improving.
Personally, I would start with an Industrial Design course, maybe Loughborough etc. An ID course will stand you in good stead if you get fed up with cars.
I am a coventry graduate and I am currently doing a masters at loughborough, there is a tutor here that is a cov graduate and he is a fantastic sketching/drawing teacher. He sits you down and teaches you how to draw well. Whereas in Coventry we were given 3 weeks how to render then told to go away and learn how to draw cars ourselves.
If you want to be taught how to draw cars don't go to coventry.
If you want a job as a designer Cov is the best place to go in the UK. There are graduates in every studio in the world. The teaching is minimal; it isnt school, its an opportunity to learn under your own initiatve when otherwise youd be working some job in order to pay the rent.
