i am a engineering student in india and interested in going into car design. i have been browsing through this forum and have got mixed suggestions about how to go about it. the safest way it seems to be is to do a bachelors in design first and then join the industry, if needed, do a masters. but after four years in engineering, i prefer doing a masters straight away.
however the main problem that i am having right now is of choice. there are two design institutes in india that i am keen on going into, one is IDC at IIT, which gives a degree in industrial design (not automobile design), and NID(was featured in the news on 8th june), which gives a post grad diploma in trans./auto. design. i am doing a foundation course for an year which will help me get through the entrance exams and studio tests.
is it true that a degree is a better option than diploma and is industrial design is a broad subject that includes automobile design also? also i am planning to extend my studies to a degree from a foreign university later, like SPD or Coventry. for this, will a degree in industrial design from IIT IDC make it easier for me or will the Post Grad diploma in auto design be better. also IIT's are more reputed institutes in india, and it will be easier to convince my parents if i try for industrial design at IDC IIT.
as far as sketching skills are concerned, i havent tried anything else other than cars, and i'm pretty good at the cars, have learnt myself from a couple of books.
really in a dilemma with this one. please help me out.

thank you
degree is a certificate dude, what u need is a decent portfolio!! sketching is important for beginning but u need to learn concept dev, presentation, etc which a MA course wont be enough for that. ppl spend 4 years working their a** off and still getting no where.
