Has anyone got any or know of any statistics of the Unemployment rate in Automotive Design? How many good designers do you know who have graduated from a good university who cant get work?

Not a car designer just an enthusiast.

Graduating design students have to be exceptional in

Drawing
Rendering
Presentation (Verbal and Visual)
Graphics
Professionalism
In other words one of the best graduates in their class.

If a graduating student has all of these, and does not get a job, they are not good enough.

I am sick of hearing there are not enough jobs, that is BS. If a student has everything that I have mentioned, then they will get a job. It might not be handed to them, they might have to go out and hunt for it, but they will get a job.

I know because I am a designer in the industry. I have at least 50 friends who are all designers in the industry, and this method has worked for every single on of them. Some of them were sought out, some were not, but with dedication we all made it.

Statistics mean nothing. Design is unlike any other field. If you are looking for a sure thing, then design is not for you. It takes so much more then a statistic to describe who gets hired and who doesn't. Be prepared to make your school life your whole life.

I wish you well, design is one of the most rewarding professions. Where else can you spend millions of someone elses money to make your dreams reality?

Peace.

What else could we add to that list and how would you rank those requirements in order of priority?

Drawing
Rendering
Presentation (Verbal and Visual)
Graphics
Professionalism
In other words one of the best graduates in their class.

This list misses the two TOP attributes:
- Creativity
- Ideas
Other than that, Drawing is more important than Rendering because it is an integral part of 3D thinking. Any body who can draw well can learn to render better later.
