I am not sure what you mean by "designing". To design a car (conceptually, not a prototype) all you need is a pencil and a piece of paper. Now, to make things a little more complicated:
1. Pencil + Paper + Imagination 2. Photoshop for rendering 3. Maya, Lightwave, Cad, 3dMax for a 3d model 4. Clay for an analog 3d model 5. $,$,$ for a prototype
