Hi guys. My dad is a car photographer and is starting to look into the whole CGI field. As I'm sure you're all aware, lots of images in advertising are now created completely from scratch with computers. Does anyone know where you can get the wires of production cars detailed enough to create images as an alternative to photography? I've found sites on the net where wires are available for download, but they don't seem anywhere near detailed enough for this application. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Accurate meshes are expensive; £200-1000s for some.

The most convincing work out there (in terms of stills or animation for advertizing) is often commissioned by car companies. When this is the case they will most often provide the 3D data - which means very detailed data.

But apart from that here are a few sites you can take a look at:

www.the123d.com
www.doschdesign.com
