I am about to go on my summer break but don't feel like partying, feel like breaking into a technical surfacing class-a job instead!

I was wondering, what are the best ways I could use my time (one month) most productively, something that has factual credibility?

I could take a photo of some car off Google and simply re-model it, but that sounds a bit to unoriginal to me. Any ideas? Thanks!

Nah, I wouldn't say that it's unoriginal.

If you're looking for a portfolio piece, then make sure you pick a quality vehicle to practice on. Don't do an '85 Corvette because it was your favorite car as a kid.

Do the Citroen GT or the new Jaguar or something more complex that the viewer of your portfolio would be familiar with. (And more impressed due to its complexity.)

You're right it depends on what car you pick, no sports cars for me, but I also think any recent cars might be somewhat awkward regarding intellectual property?

I was thinking maybe something along the lines of 1950-60s style, those cars had some flair to them with some interesting areas, for example: http://popuppistons.com/pictur...1955oldsmobile01.jpg

What do you think?

Hmmm. I have come to the conclusion that this kind of mid-90s era NURBS patch modeling isn't everything I thought it'd be.. haha.

I was really excited to do this but after the first day I was like "man, screw this!" I've always been a bit "meh" about Automotive but that's like 90 percent of the technical surfacing market. I know there's some work in marine and arospace but, not much, or am I wrong?

Maybe I just took on too much at once, does anyone have thoughts on less daunting exercises but that still have value? That way I can grow as I go.

Cheers,
Kevin

Is it so that for learning alais we have to join classes? Can one learn alais by the self learning method.

I don't think you can wing it on your own, it's just to technical.

It sounds like a good plan, when I started learning about car design I used Range Rover parts for the remodel, it was quite a challenge for me but I loved it. Good luck and have fun!
