Yeah I know im starting two sketch groups, but I feel there needs to be both of them. I would like this to be an on-going sketch group, kinda like the sketch wall, but with drawings of customs and modifieds instead of designs. This will also be used to host sort of competitions in the near future to, for example, see who can best modify a certain car. The only rule is that the car has to be in production, or has been in production, for you to modify it. All rice-cars, hot-rods, street racers, VIP style, Pro Street, welcome; anything goes! And don't use this to post complaints about modders: if you don't like it simply don't post here, simple-as. So have fun.

What is it about modified cars that is so interesting? Just a simple question, don't rant at me! Yes I agree with the proper 50s hot rods, but why the modern modified cars????

Yeah thats pretty sweet actually. Pretty subtle touches can always bring out the best of muscles and big saloon cars. Porabably would look better a bt lower, but wouldn't drive quite as well. I'd like to see that fully rendered, with some sweet pearl paint, maybe a deep, dark blue, and some chrome on that grille and wheels. As its your first post ill say welcome, it looks like you've got the whole perspective job goin on very well so far and you've got some skill when it comes to gettin a car to look good. Keep them comin!

Ok Merc560sc, there are two reasons that i see for modification of any car.
Firstly is to make it better. There is no car that is perfect, as they are built for a mass market, and therefore will not suit everyone. You simply buy what you think will please ou the most and not what exactly suits you, because that car doesn't exist no matter how much you buy a car for. So you modify it to suit you more, and maybe make it go quicker, handle better, or just make the stereo louder etc.
The second point is individualism. People love to show how they are different to everyone else, and what better than to show it through your car? As car designders, we know how much your car is important to people, and that link people have with thier cars, and a lot of people feel they want to change things to show their personal taste.
People don't realise how many modders there are out there though. I go to Max Power Live car show nearly every year here in England and you'd be suprised how many people are actually there. The scene in England is at least a million people strong.
Hope that explains it. There you go, i wasnt ranting either!
I agree with Uncle Terry. If I like a car, I can make it look much better, just to my taste.. This is another reason people make tunning or custom cars. See you soon

So they make it highly impractical and "ruin" the cars looks and handling by sticking a massive wing on the back or front spliteer etc.
Unless you change it into a race car, or you go over 100mph, (most off the shelf spoilers and splitters are not based on proper NACA profiles) those wings are purely cosmetic and actually reduce the top speed on the car and increase fuel consumption. The best aerodynamic device on a road car is the factory fitted one.
Also most cars are wannabe racing cars, unless they are proper, "Hotrods."
