Aah yes that is one sweet car.

Yes Merc560sec, its nice to see you havn't got a clue what you're talking about. You view you are taking is one that most peopl from outside the scene take, and you obviously didn't read my post on why we modify, or at least you read it in a negative frame of mind. As you will see from these posts here, especially Goodrichs amazing Charger here, there are no huge spoilers or splitters on here to slow it down or increase fuel conspumption. Don't get me wrong, i agree that most aftermarket items of that nature do have those effects, but then most modders don't use them. You, and most anti-modders, ae discriminating against a minority, in what is actually a very well formed group of people. Most of us actually have a very good knowledge of cars and what we are doing to them, and only use spoliers, if needed, from top class manufacturers that do increase performance and fuel consumption.

I feel that you are complaining about a minority in the modified car business, and that looking at true modified cars by professionals would change your negative attitudes towards us. I also stand by my reasonings for modifying that i posted earlier, if you would care to read them again, and properly this time. At no point do i mention sticking on huge spoilers.

Thus; rant over.

Ok heres a truck thats kinda thrown together with truck bits and pieces from the 50s through to the 80s. I drew this in side view as a sketch a few years back, and i still love the idea of pro street custom trucks to this day, so thought i'd draw it now that my technique has improved somewhat!

This is a bit of a laugh. I started with a fairly boring Chevy (monte carlo i believe, but i may be mistake, im not hot on modern yanks), and gave it the pro street treatment, combined with a bit of rad rod, and some inspiration from a chopper i saw in a mag.

And heres something modern. A not too overdone ricer car, but and oldy! These AE86 Toyota Corollas can give Ferraris a run for their money, and love to slide. Carbon spoiler is needed to keep the back end down and get grip on those tyres, what with having to handle about 400 brake, and the car weighing under a ton (before you say anything merc560sec)!

The degree of customization.

Michellotti's Demon Rouge 8V looked nothing like the Original .

At the other end of the spectrum ~ would the Nissan Note inspired by Addidas, the Toyota Aygo with the DJkit or the Conran Cube be customs?

Don't get me wrong Terry I am all for sooped up cars, my Dad just sold a 56 Bel Air with a vette engine in it, it was in American Grafitti, and also the king of factory made hot rods, the Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9.
It is the boy racers that I dont like! It has given modifying a bad name, ie a 1.2 Nova with a massive body kit on it!

you gotta love the AE86..
also..as said by merc560..The guys on the street who think their opel corsa will go any faster with a bodykit and altezza taillights are the ones who ruin the modifying scene..
Also..If you have the knowledge to make a car faster, why take a small fwd hatch?

Design is a mix of ideas, madness and realism, and you've got to find the best compromise

I think we need to distinguish the difference between the cars that should be appearing here, ie true modified cars, and those you find outside burger king on a friday night. And on those terms i would probably agree with you. I don't think we can really say "gives a bad name," though, as modifying is about rebellion to a certain degree, in that its individualism, and most societys try to supress that. Or at least the government. But lets not get into that debate here. I think modification is always frowned upon, and certain people simply do things that are easier for people to moan about, such as the big kits and lexus lights etc.
