Just read what i said here first: http://forums.cardesignnews.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/36560507/m/1141093741 Who agrees? After posting this i decided to go about doing some quick rod concept sketches, and found how fun they really are. So i thought it would be a good project. If ou agree, i'd like to see some ideas, not of simple hot rods or customs of already existing cars, but actual concepts based around the principles of hot rods and customs such as the Kia Kitsch and the Ford Punk. If you didnt like these rod concepts, heres where to post your versions. The way I see it is that people build rods and customs because the original cars just werent good enough, so rod and custom concpts, to be built amazing from the factory are the ultimate. The problem is they would vary toomuch for most peoples tastes... If you're not sure what a rod or custom should look like go to http://www.zoomie.com and look at the event pictures there and you're sure to get some inspiration.
I think it's a great idea but I'm working on two other contests right now so I won't be able to squeeze this one in until late Sept.
I love the idealogy behind hot rods but visualy no one really has done anything new. The Kitsch is the most original hot rod theme I've seen lately although I don't like it. The Ford Punk is nice but it's the same generic "rod" shape I've seen drawn by every design student for the past 15 years.
This is a great idea to take rodding to the next level. We have all these incredibly talented builders like Foose but we still get the same rehashed designs over and over. I mean his Riddler winner is a remarkable piece of craftsmanship but it's the same shape that's been kucked around since the 40's.
I have had a similar project like this in the skunkworks for a while now and I am about ready to start hammering some sheet metal. I'd like to see what we could come up with if we all put our heads together.
Unc. Terry- I like how you use simple backgrounds to accent the cars! It works well! Your smooth lines look great on the second link, but I must say I'm not a fan of the first one.
MK1 Golf all the way!
