Here we go again. We just announced the 5th annual Michein Challenge Design. For details, there are links on the CDN opening page or you can go to www.michelinchallengedesign.com. Notice that the site has finally been upgraded. Again this year I will be monitoring this thread so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me here or call my office. Good Luck! When do we have to submit our complete work? Do we have to finish the concept by April 13? I do not understand the funding. Do we have to give money to display our concepts, even if they are computer generated?
Good questions. If you go to www.michelinchallengedesign.com and check out "Timeline" you'll see what's due when. All that is due by April 13th is the return of a completed questionaire stating your intent. This is to seperate those who are really serious about the project from those who are just messin with us. THE COST TO YOU TO ENTER IS $0. If you make it through the judging Michelin picks up the tab for your display at the Auto Show. O.K.? Any other questions let me know.

This should be exciting. I am interested in your approach regarding the incorporation of the tyres themselves into this project, as was done last year. No mention was made on the site, is the breif going to be further clarified, ie. is there some obligation to really focus on the tyre technology as well as the general vehicle?
The theme is safety car do we have to explain or show what features make it safe. Could we jsut draw any thing we want and then say it's body is made of styrofoam that absorbs impact and so it wont do as much damage as hittin g some thing with a hard steel car. I dont think you could do more if you had to limit your explanation to 100 words.
Nikolai, Thanks for your question. This year there is no obligation to include new tire technology into your design. However there may be things you can suggest that involve the tire that would make traveling safer for everyone. Ever try to pass a truck on the highway in the rain? Those tires sure produce a lot of spray. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. . .

garo8, In your public profile you list your occupation as a "comic". Although a styrofoam car may seem funny, styrofoam could be used in other ways to make things safer. Please, feel free to enter this challenge. During the judging in July things get pretty intense and we could use some "Comic Relief"!

Hey there, im also interested in the challenge, theme is quite cool, but can I submit more than one work? also, related to garo´s question, if i add a "new" material to my car, does it have to be current right now? or can we just go wild with that? regards,!
queso, Thanks for your interest. You can submit as many entries as you want but be aware that the quality of the presented pieces has been getting better every year. So one good, well thought out idea may work best. It's up to you. As for a "new" material, I think as long as it is within reason and you explain it well, you can certaunly suggest it. We're looking for creative thinking as well as practicality.
