Do you guys know the story behind the 3rd contest winner? In 2004 many people were waiting for them to announce the theme. When it was annouced in august, they thought they had the information they needed to create a project that could win. There was nothing specific in the theme, it was something about the peugeot of your dreams for the near future. It could be a nice sports car, or it could be a boogie board with wheels added to it, it depends on what you dream about. Well that was the announcement in english, maybe it was something that made sense in french or spanish. Months later they showed us the 30 finalists. They were the boogie board I mentioned, and 29 projects that were even worse. This may or may not be a joke, but to the guys who took this game seriously, it was an outrage. They put way too much time and effort into creating the perfect project. They sent in their projects, hoping they had given the judges what they asked for in the theme. The answer they got was the 30 finalists. This could be interpreted as "all of these 30 pieces of crap are better than your project". I suppose you could use "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" as an explanation for the 30 thirty finalists, but in the eyes of many of the contestants, they all sucked. If you showed the pictures to someone who had'nt seen them, and asked them to guess what peugeot contest they were in, they would answer,"the 1st, the one with the peugeot of the year 2020 theme". The theme must be a sugestion not a rule otherwise those 30 projects would not be allowed into the finals. In this contest the jury chooses 30 finalists, Then the participants vote to determine which projects get to the final 10. Many of the contestants got mad,and wanted to boycott the final vote. They thought about it and relized that not voting was something that would be not noticed, so the next plan was to vote for the most ridiculous project, if it won it would embarress peugeot. There was nothing to stop you from voting more than once so it only takes a few hotheads to give a project the highest number of votes. I'm not saying that the winners were the 3 most embarresing projects, actually I cant, I never figured out what the moovie was,I read in der spiegel that it is a u-boat, If you're interested you can go to the peugeot design concourus website and see the pictures and read about it in the forum.
It's like one of the Moon Cars..but I think my design was better with Brand name RPG Nexus 14, and I think they stole the idea in the gray car on top 10 list. If so, I am Won but not Awarded.
I disagree with alot of peoples objections to this car winning. Take a brief look around some of the portfolios on this site and you will see ideas that you you may scream "nah! never!" and yet we may see in the near future. The idea may well be a little ahead of its time but it may prove us all wrong yet! I'm sure many people had the same reservations about the first SMART car and other innovative designs. vive le difference peugoet!
I registered just so I can make a comment for the concept... just...where the hell would ppl drive this vehicle? definitely insufficient in wet weather, the all-glass shield would make summertime unbelievably treacherous to drive in! and aerodynamically...lets not even get into that. where's the cargo space? THIS rolling helmet is only good in a golf course, or maybe..."the jetsons"...
The theme for the contest was design the peugeot of your dreams. Moovie was not meant to be a real car. The idea is to show what you can build in your imagination. This vehicle travels on a magnetic levitation track. Its like a personal maglev train. The wheels are the big round doors, they roll foward like a lamborghini door. It won because it was more original than the other entries, and the renderings are as realistic as a photograph.
