No, I think they had the best idea for a theme in their last contest, but they may be afraid to lose subscriptions by pulling such a stunt

No, Beacuse as you know design institute, companies, Magazines have contest with some specified reasons, thus Motortrend has not any contest after the last competition.

Hyundai cannot match the performance and fuel efficiency of Honda. Their cars may be better than ever before, but none of them are beating the Japanese competition. Take the Genesis for example, sure it is a nice evolution of the Tiburon, but it's no 370Z. Hyundai's are at the point where they are nice, but there is no Hyundai that is at the point where it is the best.
