The paint could do with a few relfections here and there, too much of a cartoon at the moment.

Oh and hello my fellow Yorkshireman, I'm from Barnsley, but living in Coventry!

I would definitely suggest looking at real cars to see how the reflections fall on the body and also other renders that have good reflections. The main thing you should look for is how the core reflection surrounds the car, everything else is just details.

What you need to do is look at the upper right corner of your first render: that is a good reflection. To make the render better, simply take that reflection and carry it down to the middle of the hood.

firstly, make the wheels bigger, theyre far too small proportionally.

next, decide where ur light source is. above left and from slightly behind the vehicle or to the right and quite low are two good examples. this is what you will use when determining where u place shadows and highlights later.

then apply some horizon line reflections, using reference material such as photos and other peoples renderings as a guide (as mentioned above).

next add soem contrast to the image using shading and highlights, keeping in mind where ur light source is as mentioned earlier. remember that upward facing surfaces the sky, so make these white, or even a orangy or purple hue if u want to go for a emotive dusk setting.

adjust ur shadow to take into account ur light source, add then maybe a bit of background if u fancy it, such as that dusk environment. its usually better to keep the ground and background simple and minimal, so as not to distract from the vehicle, but rather just to complement it.

bish bash bosh there u go chap.
